Zombies Run Wild in the First Trailer for ‘Train to Busan’ Sequel ‘Peninsula’

There have been so many zombie movies made over the past decade that every time another one is announced, it tends to elicit a yawn and an eye-roll. But when the latest zombie movie happens to be the sequel to one of the greatest examples in the history of the genre, well, that actually warrants some excitement.

Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2016 Korean horror film Train to Busan, one of the best-reviewed zombie movies ever made. The original film follows a diverse group of unique characters onboard a high-speed train in the midst of a zombie outbreak. It was a clever twist on the genre and a fast-paced action ride, resulting in a zombie film that stood out from the horde. Now its sequel is almost here, and we’re hoping that zombie lightning can strike twice. Here’s the synopsis for Peninsula, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting.

Four years after South Korea’s total decimation in Train to Busan, Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won), a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland, relives the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best—or worst—of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances.

The sequel is definitely taking a different route from its predecessor, and it will be interesting to see how Peninsula further evolves the zombie genre. The first trailer has been released, and as you can see below, the movie definitely isn’t skimping on the horror or action while still adding a few things that we haven’t seen in a zombie film before (like a zombie gladiator pit). Check it out below.

We definitely don’t think Train to Busan fans are going to be disappointed with what its sequel has to offer, as Peninsula looks like the best zombie movie since its predecessor. The movie has no release date as of yet (you can thank the coronavirus for that), but we’re hoping it won’t be too long before we’re able to see it.
