Ever wondered who’d win in a fight between Godzilla and the T-Rex from Jurassic Park? Well, apparently so has Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty… and it’s no surprise who he thinks would come out on top.
The director shared a piece of fan art illustrating this imaginary meeting to his Twitter account on March 21, as reported by comicbook.com. It all started when Dougherty made the following statement on Twitter: “Seriously, try it. Add Godzilla to any movie and it’s instantly a better movie. Star Wars vs Godzilla? Hell yes. Casablanca vs Godzilla? Instant classic.” An account named Rebel Alliance then tweeted Dougherty an image of Godzilla swimming toward the island of Isla Nublar, the gates of Jurassic World visible in the distance. Dougherty retweeted the image while adding his own two cents by writing, “All you can eat buffet.” Clearly, the filmmaker doesn’t think the dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park franchise would make for much of a challenge to the King of the Monsters.

Many fans have salivated at the possibility of a crossover between the two iconic franchises, but sadly one doesn’t seem all that likely. Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment currently own the rights to American Godzilla movies, while Jurassic Park is the flagship franchise of rival studio Universal. But even if the rights issues were worked out, a crossover wouldn’t really make any sense. The whole selling point of Jurassic Park is the awe and wonder created by dinosaurs being brought to the modern day. Once you introduce a giant, fire-breathing, reptilian monster to that world, the idea of dinosaurs being around doesn’t seem so impressive anymore.
So while we’ll probably never see a Godzilla/Jurassic Park crossover, it’s nice to see that even people like Mike Dougherty can have some fun thinking about one.
