Halloween is almost here, and the just-released final trailer for the new sequel gives us our best look yet at Michael Myers’ terrifying return to glory.
The new trailer is effectively split into two halves. The first half depicts Myers going on a Halloween night killing rampage, almost in real time, as he scares some trick-or-treaters, murders a woman with a hammer, and kills a second woman with a butcher knife. The second half focuses on Laurie Strode, who is now in full Terminator 2 Sarah Connor mode and has been training and praying for Myers’ escape for 40 years so she can kill him. These two ideas — the traditional horror slasher and the revenge fantasy — come crashing together in the trailer, and it looks like it’s going to be a blast. Tying it all together is the phenomenally tense and creepy score, which was put together by none other than Halloween originator John Carpenter. Check it out below.
The film is a direct sequel to the first Halloween film, and it ignores the events of all previous entries in the franchise with the exception of the 1978 original. Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Laurie Strode, original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle slips back into his old William Shatner mask for one scene (the rest of the time The Shape is played by James Jude Courtney), and Carpenter serves as executive producer along with handling music duties. David Gordon Green directs from a script he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Danny McBride.
This new trailer makes a pretty good case for this being the best Halloween since the ’70s, and we’ll find out if that’s the case when the movie hits theaters on Oct 19.
