There were a lot of great animated series to come out of the ’90s, but one of the best was undoubtedly that Saturday morning staple from Disney, Gargoyles. The series featured a group of magical stone statues in New York City that came alive at night and acted as a team of superheroes. It was as awesome as it sounds.
Fans have long campaigned for Disney to do something with the property — the original series stopped airing new episodes in 1997 — but to no avail. However, the latest effort from a fan named Carlos Ferrer may finally get the attention of the Mouse House. Ferrer has directed an awesome four minute short film in his own bid to convince Disney not only to make a Gargoyles movie, but to hire him to direct it. Here’s what he told Bloody Disgusting:
“I need as many views as possible to convince producers and execs that my vision of a live action Gargoyles film will work for audiences and fans. It’s a rich story with a great message — a fantasy set in the real world and with today’s technology it could be fantastic. I grew up with this so I feel like I really know what has to be done. So it’s really about getting as much exposure as possible with the fans and others who may not know about the show.”
Ferrer is clearly passionate about the series, and it shows in his film. You can check it out below, and who knows, maybe if it goes viral Disney will finally decide to resurrect the franchise.
