New ‘Lost in Space’ Trailer Brings Danger Back for Will Robinson

As you are no doubt aware, reboots are currently king in Hollywood, which is why seemingly every property with something resembling a fanbase is being brought back to life. The latest is classic ’60s TV show Lost in Space, which is heading to Netflix in the form of a brand new series.

The new series will premiere all ten of its season one episodes on April 13 on the streaming service, and comes to us by way of creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold), with Prison Break‘s Zack Estrin acting as showrunner. The reimagining will be a more “dramatic and modern” take on the campy (and often goofy) original, and it remains to be seen how fans of the ’60s series will take to the new version. The show takes place 30 years in the future in an age of extensive space travel, and will once again follow the Robinson family — along with fellow castaways “the unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith (Parker Posey)” and “the roguish, but inadvertently charming Don West (Ignacio Serricchio)” —  as they become marooned in outer space and are left searching for a new home. You can check out the first teaser below.

The trailer doesn’t give a whole lot to go on in the way of footage, but what is shown certainly looks gorgeous. The trailer also teases some pretty cool retro-futuristic costumes for the Robinson family, and there is of course the trademark robotic “Danger, Will Robinson!” — though we’ve never heard it sound quite so unsettling before (then again, that’s probably how it should sound, right?).

Netflix has also released a handful of photos from the new series that do a slightly better job of showing off what the final product will look like (in a word: expensive), and you can take a look at those below as well.

And just for comparative (and nostalgic purposes), here’s the opening title from the original series. Quite the difference indeed.
