The new Halloween film has begun filming, and star Jamie Lee Curtis has shared the nostalgic first picture from the set to prove it.
Curtis, who is returning to the role of Laurie Strode, shared a photo to her social media showing herself in costume alongside director David Gordon Green. Remarkably, the image also shows that the production is apparently using the same movie slate that the original film utilized way back in 1978, and it clearly has seen better days.
Curtis also touts the film’s release date this October, and seeing her on set serves as confirmation that, yes, this film really is happening. After loads of poorly-received sequels and a two-film reboot series that never really took off, the Halloween franchise is attempting a course correction. With the blessing of franchise creator John Carpenter — who is composing the music for the film and serving as an executive producer, marking his most significant involvement with the series in decades — the new movie is ignoring the muddled decades-old canon and serving as a direct sequel to the still-revered original film.
The movie is keeping its details close to the chest for now, with the synopsis simply stating: “Taking place 40 years after the original Halloween, Laurie Strode once again comes face-to-face with Michael Myers.” The film will also introduce Judy Greer as Karen Strode, Laurie’s daughter, who also is expected to draw the ire of Myers. As for Myers himself, he’ll be portrayed by stuntman James Jude Courtney as well as Nick Castle, who was the first man to ever portray the killer, offering yet another link to the classic first film.
Halloween hits theaters on October 19.
