The upcoming Halloween sequel, simply (and confusingly) titled Halloween, is doing away with much of the long-running franchise’s canon and acting as a sequel to the 1978 original film, also called Halloween. And in the spirit of consistency, the new movie is even going to bring back the original actor who wore the now-iconic pale mask as “The Shape” in the original film.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Nick Castle will once again don the creepy William Shatner mask and try to kill Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode in the 2018 film, marking the first time he’s portrayed the character since the original film. In addition to Castle, stunt actor James Jude Courtney will also appear as Myers in the film, presumably for the more physically demanding scenes. In the original film, Castle also split time as Myers, with actor Tony Moran appearing as the unmasked version.
Castle hasn’t had an acting role in a movie since 1986, and has become much better known as a writer and director since his role as Myers nearly 40 years ago. He has directed films as varied as The Last Starfighter and Dennis the Menace, and penned the scripts for iconic movies such as Escape from New York and Hook. Castle’s Halloween return marks a reunion for him and franchise creator John Carpenter, who will score and executive produce the new film, but not direct. In addition to Halloween, the two also collaborated on Escape from New York, and Carpenter appeared in Castle’s 1986 film The Boy Who Could Fly.
Halloween, which is to be directed by David Gordon Green from a script he wrote with Danny McBride, is set to premiere on October 19, 2018.
