Footage Unveiled of Surprise ‘Hatchet’ Sequel ‘Victor Crowley’

Secret movies are tough to make, but are almost always worth the effort. Remember last year, when 10 Cloverfield Lane was unveiled in a Super Bowl commercial just a few weeks before it hit theaters? That turned out pretty great. Well, director Adam Green has done J.J. Abrams one better by premiering the newest entry in his Hatchet franchise in Los Angeles on Monday night — a film that no one knew he even made.

A crowd gathered at the ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood ostensibly to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the original Hatchet, the cult slasher film starring Friday the 13th‘s Kane Hodder as deformed murderous spirit Victor Crowley, who haunts the Honey Island Swamp of Louisiana. But instead of getting a screening of the original film, Green screened for them his brand new film — Victor Crowley, the fourth entry in the franchise — in its entirety.

The new movie is set a decade after the events of the Hatchet 3, and follows the series’ lone survivor, Andrew Yong (Parry Shen) as he once again faces off against Victor while dealing with a town who believes he himself committed the murders ten years ago and got away with it. Here’s the official synopsis:

In 2007, forty-nine people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong’s claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Yong must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.

Bloody Disgusting has obtained the first teaser from the film, and it’s just as gory, terrifying, and retro as you’d expect.

The video teases a theatrical road show this fall, which definitely sounds like something to get excited about, so excuse us while we build our Halloween plans around Victor Crowley.
