This Gory New Trailer for Cult of Chucky Brings the Franchise Back to its Dark Roots

It’s been four years since we got our last dose of bloody antics from the Chucky franchise, but come October, that wait will end with the release of the seventh film in the series, Cult of Chucky.

Universal Home Entertainment has finally released the trailer for the movie, which sees a host of familiar faces and voices returning to the franchise. Brad Dourif returns once more to voice the titular doll, while Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, and Summer H. Howell all make an appearance. Only a short while after the original trailer’s release, an even bloodier red band trailer has emerged online.

Picking up where 2013’s Curse of Chucky left off, Cult of Chucky will take place mainly in the confines of a mental hospital, where Nica (Fiona Dourif) learns that the possessed doll is real. If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks very likely that Cult of Chucky is going to drag the franchise into some of its darkest territory in years. That will be a welcome move for many fans who have become frustrated with what they consider to be an all to ‘playful’ tone in recent outings.

Cult of Chucky comes to Digital, DVD and BluRay on October 3, just in time for Halloween.
