It might be some time before Mulder and Scully are back on our TV screens, which leaves us X-Files fans in a tricky situation as we try to puzzle out where our next dose of alien weirdness will come from. If you’ve exhausted your classic episode rewatch, or you’re done with all the comics, we’ve got good news for you: Key cast members from the X-Files TV series are reuniting to open up brand new case files…by way of audiobook!
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return to voice legendary investigators, Mulder and Scully in X-Files: Cold Cases, which will be set after the events of X-Files: I Want to Believe. The two stars will be joined by other familiar faces from the show’s history, including Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) and, most importantly, William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man.
The story will be based on one of Joe Harris’s X-Files comics, although it’s not 100% clear which one it will be just yet. What we do know, however, is that the story should give us a bit more insight into exactly what it was that brought Mulder and Scully back into active investigations in the build-up to last year’s revival series.
Check out more info on the audiobook in Audible’s official synopsis, below.
“Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved — dubbed cold cases — by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the U.S. government and forces not of this world.”
X-Files: Cold Cases is released on Audible on July 18th 2017. Pre-orders are available now.
