Just when we thought we couldn’t get more excited for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner sequel, a new piece of casting information proves us wrong.
We all knew that Harrison Ford would reprise his role as Deckard for Blade Runner 2049, but it looks like he won’t be the only original Blade Runner actor set to return. In an interview with the Trend Talk Show, Battlestar Galactica legend Edward James Olmos revealed that he will be bringing his Blade Runner character, Gaff, back for this year’s big sci-fi sequel.
I signed a seven page non-disclosure contract. I did, my manager did, my agent did, everybody did. I couldn’t talk about it. I couldn’t talk about it to anybody about it. Guess what? This is the first time that I’m telling the whole world, that yes, I am going to be Gaff in Blade Runner 2049.
Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, Gaff won’t be a major feature in the sequel. As Olmos points out, his character was only in a handful of scenes in the original movie, and he goes on to state that his role in the upcoming sequel will be reduced even further.
Well it’s not about Gaff, but it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back then. My role is like it was in the original – that time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a poignant little scene.
Even if it is just a small role, it’s still got us a whole lot more hyped for this movie. Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6th this year.
