M. Night Shyamalan has already conquered the world of horror movies, so now he’s setting his sights on TV… and we should all be very, very scared.
Shyamalan is serving as executive producer on the upcoming series Servant, which has just released its first trailer — and boy, is it disturbing. The trailer begins innocently enough. A young couple has just hired a new nanny to look after their infant son. Nothing too out of the ordinary, other than the fact that the nanny seems a little odd. And while the trailer leads you to believe this will be yet another tale about a nanny who tries to take over the family she’s tasked with watching, it takes a drastic turn midway through once the father picks the baby up by his ankles and drops a major bombshell on the audience. We won’t spoil any more until you watch it yourself below.
That’s a fake baby! We did not see that coming! As you no doubt deduced from the trailer, the couple lost their infant son, but the mother is in denial so they’re using a lifelike doll while she recovers. But then this mysterious nanny shows up, and she seems to believe the doll is a real baby, which also perpetuates the mother’s condition. Leave it to Shyamalan to take something as tragic as the loss of a child and turn it into a twisted creep show. Tony Basgallop created the series, and from the sound of the official synopsis, it sounds like there may also be a supernatural element at play:
Servant follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.
Servant will premiere on Apple TV+ on Nov. 28.
