Ian Somerhalder Reunites with Vampires in ‘V Wars’ Trailer

Just when Ian Somerhalder thought he was through with vampires, they’ve sucked him back in.

The actor, who starred as bloodsucker Damon Salvatore in drama The Vampire Diaries from 2009 to 2017, stars in a new vampire-centric series called V Wars. Only this time, Somerhalder won’t be playing a vampire — he’s humanity’s best chance at stopping a growing vampire epidemic.

V Wars, which is based on the IDW comic book series of the same name, tells the story of Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder), whose best friend Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) comes down with a mysterious illness. Fayne’s disease transforms him into a vampire, for lack of a better term, and it begins spreading rapidly throughout the world, eventually pitting vampires against humans in a massive war — with Fayne leading the vampire faction as Swann races to find a cure. Here’s the series’ synopsis:

V Wars follows the story of a scientist and his best friend as they face the evolving crisis of a deadly outbreak that fractures society into opposing factions, potentially escalating to a future war between humans and vampires.

Netflix has released the first trailer for the series, and we’ve got to admit, it’s got some pretty good old-school vampire horror vibes to go along with all of the actiony/war content. There are things going bump in the night, bits of vampy seduction, and of course, more than a few extra-long canines. Check it out below.

The first ten-episode season of V Wars will premiere on Netflix on Dec. 5.
