In case the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action movie wasn’t enough He-Man for you, we now have learned that the Masters of the Universe animated series is also getting a reboot!
Nerd auteur Kevin Smith himself has signed on to develop a new He-Man anime series for Netflix called Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Smith revealed the project over the weekend at Power-Con, the annual fan convention for all things He-Man and She-Ra. The new series will tell an original story that sets out to finish storylines that were left open-ended from the original ’80s animated series’ run, making the series a sequel in spirit if not in style. Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series, while the animation will be handled by Powerhouse Animation, the company that produces Castlevania for Netflix.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said, according to Collider. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
There’s no word yet as to when the series will premiere, but when it does, here’s hoping it has the power.
