New Godzilla Trailers Tease a Total of 17 Monsters & Epic Battles

Judging from the film’s title, we figured that Godzilla: King of the Monsters would feature Godzilla reigning as, well, the king of the monsters. But we didn’t expect his kingdom to include quite this many monsters.

There are only three confirmed monsters for the movie outside of Godzilla himself, and they are Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. But according to the film’s latest trailer, we should expect at least 13 more! In the trailer, Kyle Chandler’s character asks just how many of these titans there are, and Ken Watanabe’s Dr. Ishiro Serizawa replies, “17 and counting.” Now, we don’t know if we’ll actually see 17 different monsters in the film, but it sure seems like we’ll be seeing a lot more than we initially thought. The trailer also includes a bunch of new footage, including a pretty smashing shot of Godzilla slamming one of Ghidorah’s three heads into the ground.

Another new trailer features even more footage. This trailer, titled “Beautiful,” is set to the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and focuses on the film’s visual splendor. It is, in a word, breathtaking, with lots of bright colors and glorious cinematography. But in addition to its beauty, the trailer also features plenty of brutality, with even more looks at the film’s many, many monster fights including a previously unseen battle between Ghidorah and Mothra… and it doesn’t look good for Mothra.

These trailers are doing such a good job of hyping up this film that we don’t know how we’ll be able to wait for it to hit theaters on May 31.
