Ghost Busters

New ‘Ghostbusters’ Release Features Never-Before-Seen Footage

Ghostbusters came out 35 years ago, so you’d think we would have seen all the material there is to see from the classic comedy. But now some long-buried footage has risen from the grave for a new Blu-ray collection.

As first reported by EW, the upcoming SteelBook reissue of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II features loads of never-before-seen footage and newly rediscovered deleted scenes. One deleted scene that makes the cut is a now-legendary (or infamous) clip that features Ray Stantz visiting an old military fort and having an erotic encounter with a ghost. Also included in the special features is a 12-minute long clip of Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, in their Ghostbusters get-ups, pitching the movie to theater owners. This footage was screened for the attendees of CinemaCon’s predecessor, the ShoWest convention, ahead of the film’s release, and has likely been seen by few people since.

Here are all the new special features fans can expect to find in the SteelBook, courtesy of EW:

Ghostbusters

  • 6 Rare & Newly Unearthed Deleted Scenes, including the long-requested Fort Detmerring scenes!
  • Raw takes for the Central Park bums sequence
  • 1984 ShoWest Exhibitor Reel, featuring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd pitching an early reel of footage to theatrical exhibitors.
  • Full Ghostbusters TV Commercial from the film
  • Ghostbusters TV Commercial Outtakes
  • “A Moment With the Stars” – original press kit featurette
  • Original Domestic Teaser Trailer
  • Original Stereo Audio for the Feature (Blu-ray only)
  • Fan Commentary featuring Troy Benjamin and Chris Stewart (Interdimensional Crossrip podcast), Ashley Victoria Robinson (Geek History Lesson podcast) and Sean Bishop (Ghostbusters prop replica expert), moderated by Ghost Corps’ Eric Reich

Ghostbusters II

  • Commentary featuring Director Ivan Reitman, Star/Co-Writer Dan Aykroyd and Executive Producer Joe Medjuck
  • “The Oprah Winfrey Show: Cast of Ghostbusters II” – June 1989
  • Full Ghostbusters II Theatrical EPK
  • Rare Unfinished Teaser Trailer – featuring the full commercial from the film!
  • Original Stereo Audio for the Feature (Blu-ray only)

The SteelBook Ghostbusters collection will be available in stores starting June 11, and will no doubt go a long way toward getting fans excited for the continuation of the original series in 2020.
