Rejoice! The New ‘The Predator’ Trailer Is Actually Good

When the first trailer was released for Shane Black’s The Predator last month we were… a little underwhelmed. The trailer lacked action for the most part, and for a film that is supposed to invoke the feeling of the 1987 original, it sure didn’t feel like a Predator movie. But thankfully, a new trailer has come along that is much better, and it’s managed to restore our hope that this movie is actually going to be good.

The new trailer isn’t technically a trailer, per se, it’s more of a TV commercial, but it still does a great job of selling the movie. There’s more shots of predators, some soldiers in the jungle, a little ’80s machismo attitude, way more action, and the coup de grâce: two predators fighting each other! One of the predators even appears to be some kind of giant, super-predator, so that’s something else to get excited over.

Black, who wrote and directed the film, was a co-star in the original Predator. He’s stated that he’s hoping to capture the feel of that movie, and the new film will also be ignoring the events of Predators and the Alien v Predator movies, instead acting as a sequel to Predator 2 in an attempt to get the wayward franchise back on track. The film boasts an ensemble cast that’s loaded with familiar faces like Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, and Jake Busey, who will be playing the son of his real life father Gary Busey’s character from Predator 2. Sadly, Arnold Schwarzenegger will not appear in the film, but hopefully that giant, hulking, super-predator will more than make up for his absence.

The Predator hits theaters on September 14.
