See Pinhead’s Glorious Return in the First ‘Hellraiser: Judgement’ Trailer

The Hellraiser franchise is coming back after a seven year hiatus with Hellraiser: Judgement, and we finally have the first trailer for the highly-anticipated film. And although this is the tenth film in the franchise, it’s hoping to be a return to glory for a horror series that has seen better days.

The original Hellraiser was released in 1987 and became a surprise hit, with it still being regarded by many as one of the scariest movies ever made. A sequel was rushed out the following year, followed by two more in 1992 and 1996. By then, however, the gory horror movies of the ’80s had gone out of fashion, and beginning with 2000’s Hellraiser: Inferno — the franchise’s fifth entry — every Hellraiser film has been released directly to video; with many of them beginning life as an unrelated film before being reworked into a Hellraiser movie. Hellraiser: Judgement is also heading straight to home release, but it’s doing so with a bit more pedigree than its predecessors, as it was always intended to be a Hellraiser film that would get the franchise back on track. The official synopsis is as follows, via Collider:

The dreaded Pinhead returns in the next terrifying chapter of the classic Hellraiser series. Three detectives trying to stop a diabolical serial killer are sucked into a maze of otherworldly horror, where hellish denizens including the Auditor, the Assessor, and the Jury await to pass judgment.

The trailer definitely shows lots of torture porn and gore, and gives the impression that the film will not be an easy watch — something that longtime fans of the franchise will no doubt appreciate. You can check it out below.

Hellraiser: Judgement will be released digitally and on Blu-ray/DVD on Feb. 13, 2018.
