Last year, Stranger Things came out of pop culture left field to dominate conversations among sci-fi and horror fans. The Duffer Brothers’ show was a huge hit, so huge in fact, it has been given a premium slot in San Diego Comic-Con’s hallowed Hall H next week, where 6,000+ fans will welcome key members of the Stranger Things cast and crew.
While we’ll have to wait until the Stranger Things Hall H panel to find out exactly what’s in store for Eleven and the rest of the gang in season 2, Netflix has already started their teaser campaign, releasing an epic new poster that suggests the horror elements of the show are going to be far more prominent than in season 1.
Not only does the poster reveal the second season’s release date (October 27th – just in time for Halloween!), but it gives a huge nod to the work of horror legend, Stephen King. The poster is reminiscent of some classic King cover art, combining elements of The Stand and The Mist to find a perfect frame for the show’s new Lovecraftian big bad. It’s a timely reminder that this is a show worth watching not just for the new drama that unfolds on screen, but also for the many Easter Eggs that are hidden within.
And the fun doesn’t end there, either. Shortly after the release of that poster, the show’s official Twitter account released this teaser trailer.
