Rick Moranis’s Spaceballs Helmet is Up For Auction

A piece of serious sci-fi history is currently up for grabs, and if you’ve got a few thousand dollars laying around spare, you could be the one to score it. The comically-oversized helmet worn by Rick Moranis in Mel Brooks’ sci-fi spoof Spaceballs has been put up for auction alongside a series of big-time movie collectibles.

On sale via auction site Invaluable, the helmet has been the subject of just three bids in its first three days of sale. The only problem? The highest bid right now stands at a hefty $9000.

“This articulating oversized signature helmet was worn by Moranis as Dark Helmet throughout the Mel Brooks classic Sci-Fi spoof,” reads the description. “Consisting of 20 in. round by 14 in. tall cartoonish “Darth Vader”-stylized helmet constructed of heavy vacuum formed plastic component shell affixed to internal construction worker’s hard-hat liner to fit the actor. With screw-hinged movable faceplate section featuring vents, metalized shower drain mouth piece and triangular embedded tinted see-through lenses. Exhibiting only minor production wear and age. In vintage very good to fine condition.”

Dark Helmet’s helmet isn’t the only piece of Spaceballs memorabilia up for sale, though. A miniature of the Eagle 5 Space Winnebago– piloted by John Candy’s Barf– is also up for sale, with a schwartzy guide price of  $20,000. You can place your bid for that one, right here.
