Captain’s log, stardate: March 22, 2017. On this day, William Shatner turns 86 years old. This day is also exactly 216 years before the birth of the actor’s most famous character, Captain James Tiberius Kirk, who will be born on March 22, 2233. Coincidence? Obviously not, but it’s still pretty fun that Shatner and Kirk share a birthday. So to celebrate, here are some of the pair’s best moments.

Kirk Faces a Gorn

My money’s on the captain.

Shatner Performs “Rocket Man”

Eat your heart out, Elton John.

Kirk Screams “Kahn”

KAAAHHNN!!!

Shatner Pokes Fun at Trekkies

He kids ‘cuz he loves.

Kirk Battles Spock

They were best friends — forced to fight to the death. It doesn’t get any more dramatic than that.

Shatner Sees Something on the Wing

He wasn’t crazy! He was right!

Kirk Is Buried Alive… With Tribbles!

I can think of many worse things to be buried in.

Shatner Goes For a Ride

Of the approximately 4,854 cop dramas that aired on television in the 1980s, T.J. Hooker was clearly the best.

Kirk Makes History

The captain locked lips with Uhura, marking TV’s first ever interracial kiss in 1968. Way to go, Kirk.

Shatner Pretends to Forget Kirk’s Name

Good one, Bill!

Happy birthday, William Shatner and Captain Kirk! Here’s to many more!
