A new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant has just dropped, and it brings good news for those who were hoping the movie would bring the franchise back to its horror roots, but bad news for those who like practical effects.
After seeing the crew of the colonization ship Covenant in last week’s official prolog, it soon became clear that we were being made to feel familiar with a group of people who, barring the odd exception, would be brutally killed on screen in just a few months. This latest trailer does a good job of confirming those suspicions, showing everything from Facehuggers to Backbursters, and even a fully grown Xenomorph terrorizing the Covenant crew.
Alien purists might be dismayed to see a CGI Xenomorph smashing its skull into a windscreen, but while it did take a second or so for our eyes to adjust, it didn’t look too unnatural….other than the fact it’s a freakin’ alien, of course.
Alien: Covenant is released in theaters on May 19th. Check out the full synopsis, below.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
