The Studio Behind Ex Machina Just Released a Mysterious New Sci-Fi Trailer

It’s not just JJ Abrams who can drop mystery movies out of nowhere. A24, the studio behind the brilliant Ex Machina and the brilliantly weird Swiss Army Man, has just dropped a trailer for a mysterious new Sci-Fi movie, and we’ve got absolutely no idea what it’s about.

The Internet is abuzz with chatter about the video, above, which has no title and comes only with the words “In our near future”  in its description. There was no press release or further information accompanying the trailer.

In the footage, we’re treated to some beautiful shots of a seemingly random bunch of people, only some of whom appear to be living, as the description states, in the near future. Other shots, most of which include the teenage boy, appear to be grounded in the present day. The imagery of the ‘near future’ centers on some slick looking technology, including glass-thin smartphones and large viewing walls. However, we’re given the impression that it’s the medical pod that’s at the heart of whatever story this turns out to be.

Already, some Internet sleuths have spotted that some of the text shown on the hi-tech screens suggest that the date in this movie is 2076, but that’s about as much detail as we’ve got so far.

As a studio, A24 is on something of a roll right now. Following on from Ex Machina in 2015, the studio brought a raft of critically acclaimed hits to the big screen. From fan-favorite genre movies like The Lobster and The Witch to last year’s Oscar hit, Room, A24 has quickly developed a big fanbase. And, things are only set to get bigger and better, with the studio’s  Moonlight, 20th Century Women, and American Honey getting serious buzz among critics.

Right now, though, all we’re concerned with is what on Earth this new mystery movie is about. Got any ideas? Let us know below.
