New Star Trek: Discovery Footage Teases New Uniforms, Ships, and Villains

Production on CBS’s Star Trek: Discovery is officially underway. To celebrate, a new teaser has been released, giving us a brief glimpse at some of the show’s key elements. While the teaser is short, it’s packed with details for fans to pour over. Starfleet uniforms, new ships, and what appears to be the armor of some form of alien villain are just a few of the details included…..

After months upon months of waiting, Star Trek: Discovery is finally starting to feel real. The teaser contains a good 30 seconds of pure nostalgia, but it’s what follows that will really interest fans. The uniforms have a similar feel to those seen in the first Kelvin timeline movie, and there’s a lot to unpack with those brief glimpses of ship artwork. San Diego Comic Con gave us an early glimpse at the USS Discovery, but it was widely criticized by fans, despite the fact it was an unfinished concept. That same concept has been tweaked in this new video, but it remains to be seen if those tweaks will be enough to win over Trek fans.

In other ‘Discovery’ news, Emily Coutts (Crimson Peak) is rumored to be the next in line for a role on the show. Earlier this week, the actress’s name briefly appeared on Discovery’s IMDB listing as a ‘Conn Officer’. The listing has since been taken down, which might put a damper on the specifics of that particular report. However, it does show that we can expect a ton of new casting announcements in the coming weeks.

Confirmed cast members for Discovery include Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Doug Jones (Hellboy), and Anthony Rapp (Dazed and Confused).

Although Discovery has embarked on its journey into production, it’s release date was recently scrapped for a second time, with no replacement release date scheduled. But, given the show will be released exclusively on CBS’s All Access platform, that shouldn’t be any cause for concern. For most of you outside of the US, you’ll be able to watch Star Trek: Discovery on Netflix.
