Amazon’s Galaxy Quest TV Show is Moving Forward

After an understandable delay, Amazon’s plans to return to the world of Galaxy Quest appear to be back on track. The streaming platform has been looking at resurrecting the cult title for a while now, but after the death of the original movie’s star Alan Rickman, the project was put on an indefinite hold.

Now, a new report has revealed that the TV revival of the 1999 movie slowly getting back on track. The report from THR reveals that Actor and Writer Paul Scheer (The League, The Disaster Artist) has agreed a deal to take over writing duties from Robert Gordon who wrote the original movie. Moments after the report broke, Scheer took to social media to confirm things.

With Seth MacFarlane’s comedic Star Trek tribute The Orville set for release this fall, it might seem like a strange time to pick this project back up again. But, if rumors are to be believed, there’s a ton of new Star Trek content in the pipeline, which means that there could be plenty of new opportunities to play up to the campier side of science fiction television. Plus, let’s not forget that Galaxy Quest already has a cult following, and if Paramount Television and Amazon could get some of the movie’s original cast to return, this could be a big hit.
