Doctor Who Is Bringing Back The Original 1960’s Cybermen

A new promo shot from Doctor Who season 10 tells us the show is ready to get back to its roots, bringing back the original version of one if its iconic characters.

Much like the Daleks, Doctor Who‘s Cybermen have become frequent stars on the hit BBC show, appearing in a number of different guises over the decades. Most fans know the Cybermen as creepy, traditional robot-like creatures with expressionless chrome faces, as that’s how they have appeared for the bulk of their time on the show. But, when they first appeared back in the 1960’s, the Cybermen were originally meant to play off of real-world fears about the prevalence of body modification. To do so, they were given a mix of metallic and organic body parts by way of different colored costume sections and a cloth face mask. The result was something far more haunting than anything the bad guys have appeared as since.

Doctor Who‘s latest Season 10 teaser image is good news for those who love nostalgia, but bad news for anybody who likes to sleep after watching the show, because it tells us that the original Mondasian Cybermen are making a creepy return!

Guess who’s back!
It’s the original Mondasian Cybermen, returning for eps 11 & 12 of the new series!https://t.co/F6G9YQrVCb#DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/fOchIo4KaY

Peter Capaldi, who is entering his final season as the titular Doctor, is thought to have been a big fan of the original Mondasians, so it’s nice to see him getting a chance to battle them before he bows out.

Season 10 of Doctor Who will land on BBC America on April 15th.
