Star Wars‘ Skywalker saga officially came to an end last year with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, bringing a conclusion to the decades-spanning nine-film franchise that changed pop culture forever. Now, a new official documentary called The Skywalker Legacy is highlighting the journey to the end, and you can watch the first ten minutes of it online now.
The feature-length documentary comes from Disney, and will be included as a bonus feature on the upcoming Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray. The doc features loads of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, and while the focus is certainly on Episode IX, there’s lots of footage from the early days of the saga, too. The film actually opens on a scene from the set of Return of the Jedi in 1982, where a group of fans from San Diego are interviewed while trying to get a glimpse of the filming that was going on in the Yuma desert. It’s an interesting look at the early days of a fandom that would go on to become one of the largest and most passionate in the world.
The first ten minutes of the film also feature some bloopers from A New Hope, cast and crew from The Rise of Skywalker reflecting on what the saga means (and what it means to end it), and a cool interview with Billy Dee Williams that splices clips from him speaking on the set of The Rise of Skywalker with him doing the same on the set of The Empire Strikes Back forty years earlier. Check it out below, and try not to get too emotional.
The Skywalker Legacy will release with The Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray on March 31.
