The scourge of PG-13-rated Terminator movies has officially come to an end. At the Comic-Con panel for Terminator: Dark Fate, it was revealed that the film will carry an R rating. Not only that, but the filmmakers brought along some footage to prove it.
In a behind the scenes featurette that also shows off some footage from the film, director Tim Miller and producer James Cameron declare their excitement for the film, and it really sounds like the movie is going to be a return to form for the franchise that’s more in line with Cameron’s first two films than the underwhelming sequels. In addition to the commentary, which itself is R-rated, we also get a glimpse at some of the film’s action sequences, which look fantastic. Seriously, this may finally be the Terminator 2 sequel fans have been waiting for since the early ’90s. You can check out the NSFW footage below, and be sure to keep your eye out for a fight scene at the end between Arnold’s T-800 and Gabriel Luna’s terrifying new Terminator.
In addition to the footage, the panel also revealed that Edward Furlong is in the film, reprising his role of John Connor from T2. Fans have long speculated about John’s role in the film, and learning that he’ll be portrayed by the former child actor who gave the character’s most iconic performance is pretty exciting, to say the least.
Terminator: Dark Fate really is shaping up to be the T2 sequel we’ve always wanted, and we’ll see if it can fulfill its destiny when it hits theaters on Nov. 1.
