Godzilla: King of the Monsters doesn’t even come out until next year, but work has already begun on its 2020 sequel, Godzilla vs Kong.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Studios announced on Monday that filming has started on the massive sequel that will pit two of cinema’s most iconic monsters against each other for the first time in decades. Not only that, but the studios also unveiled the first official plot synopsis for the movie:
In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.
The synopsis is fairly vague, but it gives enough information that we’re ready to make the following prediction: Godzilla and King Kong will team up in this film. The “human conspiracy” that threatens to wipe both creatures from the face of the Earth ought to be enough for the two giant beasts to set aside their differences and take on whatever this conspiracy is together. We’re guessing that Kong and Godzilla will have their big fight in the second act of the film after a first act set up, and by the third act they’ll be on the same side and getting the whole crowd behind them as they take on these dastardly humans. And if we’re right and this is indeed what happens, then we sincerely hope the reason the two beasts stop fighting doesn’t have anything to do with one of them saying the name “Martha.”
Godzilla vs. Kong hits theaters on May 22, 2020.
