Jacob’s Ladder, one of the most mind-bendingly disturbing films ever made, is jumping on board the reboot train, so prepare to have your world rocked all over again.
According to Bloody Disgusting, LD Entertainment is producing a remake of the 1990 cult classic that they plan on releasing in less than six months, on Feb 1, 2019. However, the story notes that the studio’s date is flexible, and the film may be moved to a later release window. The new version is directed by David M. Rosenthal (The Perfect Guy) and stars Sleepy Hollow‘s Nicole Beharie, Michael Ealy (Barbershop), Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), Guy Burnet (Ray Donovan), and Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder). The original starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam vet who suffers from a form of PTSD that gives him terrifying hallucinations of demons and other disturbing figures, and he must figure out what’s real and what’s in his head. It’s also notable for featuring some of the most deeply terrifying scenes ever put to film.
The reboot changes up the plot quite a bit, and is intended as more of an homage to the original with the same feel than a straight remake. The Vietnam vet storyline is out, naturally, and the focus will be on two brothers who presumably share the same disturbing hallucinations. And with the original ranking up there as one of the most disturbing and difficult-to-watch films ever made, the remake sure has its work cut out for it if it’s looking to incite a similar reaction.
