Godzilla: Monster Planet, the first anime Godzilla movie, is currently satiating our hunger for more Godzilla movies, but we’re still counting down the days until the monster’s next live action film, 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters. And after hearing the latest news about the upcoming film, the wait just got harder.
O’Shea Jackson Jr., who’s starring in the movie, recently teased that Godzilla is going to have an epic, knock down, drag out fight with none other than King Ghidorah in the film, which is a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla and takes place in the same universe as last year’s Kong: Skull Island. Jackson, himself a big Godzilla fan, discussed the Kaiju battle in an interview with Collider, and it sounds like it could be the most impressive Kaiju fight ever put to screen.
“As a Godzilla fan, I know that I was shocked to find out that the second movie has King Ghidorah, like, King Ghidorah is the Godzilla bad guy, like, three-headed golden dragon that shoots lightning, is gonna be in the movie that I’m in! We got Mothra, we got Rodan, and we got King Ghidorah all in the same film, and in the last scene between Godzilla and King Ghidorah, I promise you, you will never forget it, in your life. As a nerd, I am foaming at the mouth to get like in the editing room, or something, nobody’s answering my calls … The way that [Godzilla] and Ghidorah fight… Kong better bring some s—t.”
It’s clear that Jackson is hyped about the film, which he notes also features the classic monsters Mothra and Rodan, and he even throws a little shade at King Kong by implying that the giant ape won’t be able to put up the kind of fight that Ghidorah did when he faces off against Godzilla in 2020’s Godzilla vs Kong. It also seems like Jackson may be spoiling the movie a bit by seemingly stating that the fight between Godzilla and his longtime archenemy Ghidorah will be the last scene in the film. And although we’re pretty certain that Godzilla’s going to win the fight, we’re wondering if he’s going to require some help from other monsters (or even humans) to do so, since Ghidorah has historically been depicted as the stronger monster in their one-on-one battles. Whatever the case, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing the spectacle of this fight.
