Cloverfield became an unexpected franchise after the twist ending of 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, and we had been anticipating the third installment — a space-set untitled film nicknamed God Particle — to hit theaters this February. But now, word comes that the movie’s release date has been pushed back another two months.
The film was first planned for release in early 2017, roughly a year after its predecessor. That obviously didn’t happen, and it then received a solid release date of February 2, 2018. But with no poster, trailer, or even a title yet, it’s not surprising that it’s not keeping that release date either, and will now open on April 20. Virtually nothing is known about the movie, which is produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by Julius Onah, but it’s rumored to be about a group of astronauts orbiting the Earth when the planet suddenly disappears. Here’s the cryptic plot synopsis for the film from IMDb:
