Stargate Origins

‘Stargate: Origins’ Unveils Teaser Trailer, Announces Release Date

We finally have a concrete release date for the return of the Stargate franchise: February 15, 2018. In less than two months, the new series Stargate: Origins will premiere exclusively on the online streaming service Stargate Command, and MGM has just released the first real look at the series with a short new teaser.

In the brief trailer, which is packed with new footage, we see young Catherine Langford (Ellie Gall), daughter of the discoverer of the Egyptian Stargate, Professor Langford, begin her previously-untold adventures through the Stargate in the 1930s. The time-period, desert setting, as well as the surprise presence of villainous Nazis help call to mind Indiana Jones — which definitely isn’t a bad thing. Check it out below.

The new ten-episode series acts as a prequel to the franchise, taking place before the 1994 Stargate film, which saw the Stargate activated in modern times and an expedition to the planet Abydos; populated by an Ancient Egyptian-like society and ruled by the alien Ra. A franchise was born from the film, with long-running spinoff series Stargate SG-1 leading to two more spinoff series: Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate Universe., but the franchise has been dormant since SGU came to an end in 2011. Origins takes place before anything else in the series, telling an exciting new story that still respects the canon of the franchise.

The combination of sci-fi elements with old school adventure-storytelling makes Stargate: Origins look both thrilling and unique, and we definitely can’t wait to see Catherine Langford do battle with Nazis on an alien planet.
