We’ve seen a number of giant and menacing animals as movie monsters: Sharks, crocodiles, and now… pigs. Well, a wild boar, specifically, as seen in the new Australian gore-filled horror flick BOAR, which just released its first teaser.
The film is produced by Slaughter FX, who put a heavy emphasis on creating the special effects that bring the creature to life via an enormous practical wild boar. “A stellar special effects team went all out in bringing the hulking eight foot, two-tonne killer pig to life and made into one of the most menacing movie monsters of all time,” reads a statement on the studio’s website. The movie stars Bill Moseley, Nathan Jones, Johan Jarratt, and Melissa Tkautz, and was written and directed by indie horror favorite Chris Sun (Come and Get Me, Daddy’s Little Girl, Charlie’s Farm).
The plot for the film seems pretty straight forward, as it will tell the classic tale of a group of teens trapped in the woods with a murderous monster. The twist of course being that the monster is a pig:
“There’s a boar in the harsh yet beautiful Australian outback, an animal of staggering size, with a ruthless, driving lust for blood and destruction. Defending its territory, it cares for no one and kills with a raw animalistic savagery unlike any have seen before.”
The first teaser is frustratingly brief at just 15 seconds, but there’s enough flashes of pure mayhem to pique our interest in the film:
The movie is set to premiere at Australia’s Monster Fest film festival on November 23, and we’re hopeful that news of U.S. distribution comes soon afterward.
