Pretty much all Godzilla fans suffer from the same problem: There’s no one-stop shop where they can pick up all of their Godzilla merch. OK, that’s not really a problem anyone has, but there is a solution on the way nonetheless: The world’s first official Godzilla store.
According to Japanese site Moviche, the store is set to open in Tokyo (where else?) on October 30 of this year, and will be located in the Shinjuku Toho Building, which naturally already features a giant Godzilla bust on its roof (Toho is the movie studio that produces Godzilla films in Japan). The store will feature over 500 items — all of them Godzilla related, and many exclusive to the store — making this a true mecca for megafans of the kaiju. So what kinds of Godzilla goodies can you expect to find? Toys, clothing, limited figures, fine china… you name it. If it’s got Godzilla on it, odds are you’ll be able to find it in the store.
The timing of the store certainly makes sense, as the big lizard is experiencing a major resurgence as of late. Toho just rebooted their version last year with Shin Godzilla, and they’re releasing an animated feature next year, Godzilla: Monster Planet. Meanwhile, the U.S. franchise also saw a successful reboot in 2014, which spawned Legendary Pictures’ and Warner Bros.’ new Monsterverse. The American version of Godzilla is set to stomp theaters again in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and again in 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong, where he will square off against the newly rebooted King Kong. All of this combines to make this perhaps the best time ever to be a fan of Godzilla.
