The Shining has long been regarded as one of the scariest movies of all time, but thanks to one fan who reimagined a scene from the horror classic as a musical, it may now also be one of the funniest.
A man named Antonio Maria Da Silva has taken a scene from the film and written an original Broadway-style show tune for it, then edited the scene in a way to make it appear as if the characters are singing to each other. The scene he used is one of the most chilling in the entire film — but one that works surprisingly well with some toe-tapping musical accompaniment. It’s the scene where Jack Torrance learns the hotel’s butler is none other than the ghost of the previous caretaker, Delbert Grady, who had killed his family and himself. He offers Jack advice by telling him he needs to “correct” his own wife and son, i.e. kill them, which furthers Jack’s descent into madness.
Da Silva has taken the phrase “correct them” and run with it, penning an absurdly catchy tune based around those words. The upbeat ditty features singing and speaking parts for both characters, and should certainly be put under consideration for inclusion should the film ever be adapted to a stage musical.
