It continues to ramp up its marketing in anticipation of its September 8 debut, with new ads and sneak peeks being released seemingly every day. But its latest effort — a new VR trailer — is definitely the most horrifying look yet at the new Stephen King film.
The new four-and-a-half-minute video is less a trailer and more of an experience, as you’re able to look around in 360 degrees to observe your surroundings and try and locate Pennywise while you journey from the streets of Derry, Maine to the storm drains below the town. Yellow raincoat-clad Georgie appears, goading you along deeper into the sadistic clown’s lair, where the villain eventually taunts you with the familiar threat that “you’ll float, too.”
This may be our best look yet at Bill Skarsgard’s incarnation of Pennywise, and he’s definitely terrifying in the role. The video is filled with jump scares courtesy of Pennywise, some tense old school horror movie music, and an overall sense of dread as you’re lead deeper and deeper into the sewers. You can check out the video below, which we recommend doing in the dark and in full screen mode for ultimate terror potential.
If virtual reality isn’t lifelike enough for you and you live in Southern California, then you may also want to check out “The It Experience: Neibolt House Hollywood,” a free pop up haunted house attraction that opened in Los Angeles on August 14 and will remain open every day until September 10. The house is a two-story replica of “where It lives,” and all attendees (18 and over) must sign a waiver before entering. You can find more information here.
It floats into theaters on September 8.
