Not much has been revealed about SyFy’s mysterious new horror series, Ghost Wars, but at their San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday they unveiled the first trailer, and it looks like it could be the scariest show on TV.
The series, which stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Avan Jogia, and the one and only Meat Loaf, takes place in the tiny Alaskan town of Port Moore, where residents are isolated with no escape for three-quarters of the year. As it turns out, there’s a lot in the town that they need to escape from, as the village is populated with all sorts of malevolent dead people whose ranks are constantly growing thanks to the number of dead people popping up all over town.
The series, which creator Simon Barry revealed is looking to emulate the horror of the ’80s — specifically calling out the works of John Carpenter and Stanley Kubrick — certainly gives that impression with its trailer. There’s lots of gore, tons of foul language (words I didn’t even know you could say on Syfy), and practical effects — Jogia confirmed the show uses puppets — all of which call back to the horror films of yesteryear. There’s also some seriously creepy-looking characters, including one nicknamed “prosciutto man,” and a number of horrifying scenes. There were actually three scenes in the trailer that caused the entire Comic-Con audience to gasp in horror, so see if you can figure out which scenes they are in the trailer below.
Ghost Wars is set to premiere sometime this October on Syfy.
