It’s no secret that Mystery Science Theater 3000 has a large, and passionate fanbase. After all, that fanbase did recently raise over $6 million to help fund the creation of all new episodes of the show. But, now it looks like MST3K fans are going to have to start parting with even more of their hard-earned cash because Dark Horse comics has just announced a major merchandise deal with the show’s creators.
The biggest part of this merchandising deal is the announcement that MST3K stars Joel, Mike, Crow, Gypsy, and Tom will soon star in their own comic book series. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m just as excited about this as you are– but finding a comicbook-worthy story in the MST3K world will surely stretch the creativity of even the great minds at Dark Horse comics. But if anybody can do this, it’s probably Dark Horse who have, in the past, given comic treatments to everything from Alien vs Predator to Xena: Princess Warrior.
There’s no news yet on what the premise for the comic series will be, but we’re hoping it involves Pumaman and some of the other wacky movie characters the gang has roasted over the years.
The Dark Horse Comics announcement also hinted at the possibility of other “Dark Horse–designed products”, which hopefully means that we’ll soon be able to purchase some Crow and Gypsy action figures. Because, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to have those guys on their mantlepiece looking over them as they watch their favorite B-Movies?
