As a thirty-something-year-old fan of geek culture, I’m repeatedly haunted by the fact that the Bill & Ted movie series ended with just two entries. Ever since the Wyld Stallyns saved the day for the second time, I’ve been desperate for more. ‘Bogus Journey’ might not have been a favorite of critics, but it left me and many other fans hungry for more from the bumbling rockers. Now, more than 25 years on, it could be that Keanu Reeves has given us hope that a new Bill & Ted movie is on the cards.
Speaking on BBC’s Graham Norton Show, Reeves revealed that writers are working on a story for a third Bill & Ted movie, going as far as to even divulge plot details.
Reeves outlines a story that sees Bill and Ted neglecting their world-saving duties because they’re too overcome with the rigors of adult life. They’re meant to have written a song that will, eventually, save the world, but the pair are struggling to keep their wives and kids happy as well as, I assume, locking down a steady job.
What Reeves reveals is a Bill & Ted plot that feels appropriate given the age of the actors (and fans of the movies). If the first two movies focus on Bill and Ted dealing with teenage issues, it certainly makes sense that number three will see them deal with adult issues.
The fact that a story is in the works doesn’t mean that this movie will happen, but it’s nice to know that the powers that be are actually considering it.
