Roger Corman is one of the most legendary sci-fi directors and producers of all time, but now the B movie legend is turning the reins over to you.
The 94-year-old filmmaker took to social media to announce the first-ever Corman Quarantine Film Festival. The man behind such films as Little Shop of Horrors, Attack of the Crab People, and Death Race 2000 wants your submissions for his new festival, and the rules he’s set up ensure that practically anyone can enter. Corman’s not looking for professionally made feature films here. Instead, Corman’s three rules stipulate that the film must be shot on your phone, must be under two minutes in length, and must only be filmed in your own home or yard using only people who live with you. In other words, it’s the perfect contest for a bored and quarantined population.
So what do you get if you win this contest? Corman will feature your short on his website and social media accounts, you’ll receive a “Best Picture Award” from the festival, and the director will even send you a personally signed certificate commemorating your achievement. Not bad for a few minutes’ work made with stuff around the house! If you want to enter the contest, just make a short film on your phone and post it to your preferred social media account, then tag @rogercorman and #CormanChallenge, and that’s it! You can take a look at Corman’s full announcement below, and then get to work on that film — the deadline is April 30 at Midnight PST.
