Take a Look at Milla Jovovich & Her Ridiculous Sword in ‘Monster Hunter’

Milla Jovovich has already kicked zombie butt in the Resident Evil movies, but she’ll soon be tackling far bigger game in another video game adaptation in Monster Hunter. The upcoming film has just released its first official posters, and they give us our first look at the ridiculously huge weapon she’ll be using on-screen.

The Monster Hunter video game franchise is about exactly what you think it is: hunting monsters. Playing somewhat like a Pokemon game on steroids, the goal of Monster Hunter games is to slay or trap various types of fantastical creatures — many of which are huge and frightening. To do so, players utilize some absurd weaponry, and it looks like the movie adaptation will be at least keeping the weapons game-accurate. In the first two posters released from the film, stars Jovovich and Tony Jaa are seen wielding their hefty monster-killing weapons, and it just warms our hearts to see it. Jaa wields the Great Hunter’s Bow, while Jovovich holds on to the Giant Jawblade. Take a look below at the posters and the film’s synopsis, both courtesy of IGN.

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her elite unit are transported through a portal from our world to a new world, they are in for the shock of their lives. In her desperate attempt to get home, the brave lieutenant encounters a mysterious hunter (Tony Jaa) whose unique skills have allowed him to survive in this hostile land. Faced with relentless and terrifying attacks from the monsters, the warriors team up to fight back and find a way home.

Shakespeare it isn’t, but Monster Hunter definitely has the potential to be a fun-filled adventure with lots of over-the-top monster battles — as long as it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The hunt begins in theaters on September 4.
