Star Trek

It Sounds Like Quentin Tarantino Won’t Make a ‘Star Trek’ Movie After All

Whether you were excited about the prospect of a Quentin Tarantino-directed Star Trek movie or thought it was the dumbest idea ever, it doesn’t matter, as it looks like such a pairing is not going to happen.

For a while there, it really seemed like this odd matchup was going to take place. A year ago, Paramount even hired a writer to pen the script, and Tarantino was talking about his plans for the film to anyone and everyone who would listen. But, alas, it wasn’t meant to be. In a new interview with Consequence of Sound, the acclaimed filmmaker basically stated that he is no longer interested in taking on the project — even though he hasn’t told the studio as much yet. Oh well, guess they’ll find out now!

“I think I’m steering away from Star Trek,” Tarantino said in the interview, according to io9. “But I haven’t had an official conversation with those guys yet. In a strange way, it seems like this movie, [Once Upon a Time In] Hollywood, would be my last. So, I’ve kind of taken the pressure off myself to make that last big voilà kind of statement.”

After the initial reports came out regarding Tarantino’s interview, the director issued a clarifying statement to Deadline, saying that he still *might* direct a Star Trek movie, but it really sounds like his heart isn’t in it. “I might be steering away from it, but we’ll see,” he said. “I haven’t completely decided, or talked to anyone involved. Nothing is official.”

Will Tarantino direct a Star Trek movie? Maybe! But probably not… but maybe! It seems like the door may be closing (thanks to off-screen crew, of course), but there’s still a slim chance that we’ll see Samuel L. Jackson drop a few f-bombs in the Final Frontier yet.
