You Can Now Watch an Extended Preview of the Upcoming ‘It’ Documentary

It fever is not going away anytime soon. The Stephen King film shattered horror movie box office records upon its release in 2017, and its hotly anticipated sequel arrives in theaters this fall. But that’s not where the It legend begins. There’s also the 1990 miniseries that terrified a generation, and that’s what the new documentary Pennywise: The Story of It is delving into.

The doc was written and produced by John Campopiano and Gary Smart, who previously helmed the similarly-structured documentaries RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop andYou’re So cool, Brewster! The Story of Fright Night. Their new film goes behind the scenes of the 1990 TV miniseries It and features interviews with the cast and crew, a look at the special effects, and even some light ribbing at the expense of the film’s much-maligned climactic spider. The doc also examines the real-life horrors behind Pennywise, like serial killer/clown John Wayne Gacy, and discusses the phenomenon of creepy clowns in the years since.

The filmmakers have put out an extended six-minute trailer that gives you a good look at all the documentary has to offer, including commentary from the one and only Tim Curry and loads of rarely seen footage, which you can check out below.

There’s no premiere date yet for Pennywise: The Story of It, but the movie is expected to be released in some capacity later this year.
