Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are no strangers when it comes to horror-comedy films. The comedic pair were behind two of the most acclaimed examples of the genre in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and 2013’s The World’s End. Now, the duo is back with their latest effort, Slaughterhouse Rulez, and judging from the first trailer, they’re picking up right where they left off.
The movie is about a sinkhole that opens up in the woods near a boarding school, and from the depths of that sinkhole comes a monstrous beast straight from hell who starts massacring students and teachers alike. Pegg portrays a new teacher at the school, while Frost appears to be a shady drug dealer with considerable knowledge about the sinkhole and its contents. The first trailer makes the movie look like a blend of Harry Potter and Cabin in the Woods, with maybe a little bit of Evil Dead thrown in for good measure. And if you dug the offbeat humor and gore of Pegg and Frost’s other films, then it looks like Slaughterhouse Rulez will be right up your alley as well. Check out the trailer below.
While neither Pegg nor Frost had a hand in writing this new film (at least not a credited one), a rarity for their projects, it is the first film to come out of their new production company, Stolen Picture. Crispian Mills, who previously wrote and directed the Pegg-starring A Fantastic Fear of Everything, directs off a script he co-wrote with Henry Fitzherbert. Slaughterhouse Rulez hits theaters in the UK on Halloween, with no word yet on a possible release Stateside.
