The First Trailer for ‘Nightflyers’ Shows Off George R. R. Martin’s Haunted House in Space

The new TV series from A Song of Ice & Fire author George R. R. Martin, Nightflyers, has released its first full trailer, and while it may not be the next Game of Thrones, it does look like it will be worth watching.

The series is based on Martin’s 1980 novella of the same name, which was published over a decade before the author released A Game of Thrones. The sci-fi story takes place on a spaceship, where humanity’s last hope rests on a handful of space explorers who search the stars for an alien solution to fix the dying Earth. But something strange starts happening on board once the ship malfunctions, and people start turning up dead — with the ship itself possibly behind the deaths. The series is garnering comparisons to everything from Psycho to Alien, and while those are some lofty goals to live up to, the trailer at least makes Nightflyers look like it will be one of the creepiest shows on television. Check out the trailer below.

Nightflyers was previously adapted as a feature film in 1987 that was not well-received and bombed at the box office. Martin had some problems with the movie, and he’s stated that this new TV version will be more faithful to his original novella, which won the Locus Award for Best Novella in 1981. Nightflyers premieres this fall on Syfy.
