Production has begun on the next installment in the Stargate franchise, Stargate Origins, which has just announced the full cast for its upcoming streaming series.
The series, which acts as a prequel to the franchise and explores a young Catherine Langford’s journeys through the just-unearthed Stargate after its discovery in 1929, has cast 21-year-old Australian actress Ellie Gall in the lead role of Langford. Gall previously has starred in a number of TV series in her native Australia, and recently appeared on American screens in the Lifetime movie A Midsummer’s Nightmare and on Ash vs Evil Dead. “The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime,” Gall said in a statement to Stargate Command. “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.”
Other members of the cast have also been announced, including Stargate Atlantis veteran Connor Trinneer. Trinneer portrayed the villainous Michael Kenmore on the sci-fi series, but will take on a new role in Origins, playing Catherine’s father, Professor Paul Langford, the leader of the archaeological dig that discovers the Stargate in Egypt. The rest of the cast will be filled out by Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry, and Lincoln Werner Hoppe, though their roles are unknown at this time.
Stargate Origins has not yet announced a release date, but it’s expected to premiere later this year on MGM’s new online streaming platform, Stargate Command.
