NASA Wants You to Know That They Haven’t Found Proof of Alien Life….Yet

Over the last few days, the hacking group Anonymous has been causing a bit of a stir with some outlandish claims that NASA was gearing up to make a major announcement regarding the discovery of extraterrestrial life. Viewed more than two million times since its release, the group’s video (seen below) claims that a recent meeting of the US Science Space and Technology Committee has given them cause to believe that the space agency was preparing to announce what would undoubtedly be the biggest scientific discovery in humanity’s history.

The video quotes Associate Administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Professor Thomas Zurbuchen, as saying that we’re “on the verge of making one of the most profound, unprecedented, discoveries in history.”

All in, the 12-minute video puts forward what appears to be a very convincing case, especially if you’re inclined to ‘believe’ in these kinds of things to start with. Unfortunately for those believers, NASA has quickly shot down the possibility of any such announcement being made.

Zurbuchen took to Twitter to fire off a few points of clarification….

Contrary to some reports, there’s no pending announcement from NASA regarding extraterrestrial life.

— Thomas Zurbuchen (@Dr_ThomasZ) June 26, 2017

Are we alone in the universe? While we do not know yet, we have missions moving forward that may help answer that fundamental question.

— Thomas Zurbuchen (@Dr_ThomasZ) June 26, 2017

Of course, this might put the issue of a potential announcement to bed, but it might just end up fueling some even wilder conspiracy theories….
