Predator 2

Jake Busey’s Role in ‘The Predator’ Adds an Interesting Link to ‘Predator 2’

We’re pretty disappointed that Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t be reprising his Predator role in the upcoming The Predator, but the new film may have found an even better link to the franchise’s past (kinda).

In Predator 2, actor and noted crazy person Gary Busey portrayed Peter Keyes, an undercover agent on a mission to capture the predator. He ultimately fails and is killed by the creature, but his legacy will live on, as it’s just been revealed that the actor’s son, Jake Busey, will be playing the son of Peter Keyes in The Predator. Here’s what Jake told The Red Booth about his role in the upcoming film:

“[The Predator director Shane Black] called me and he said ‘Hey, you wanna do this movie? We don’t have money for you but it’ll be a fun thing to come play and be your father’s son.’ And so as much as I have followed in my Dad’s footsteps career-wise, this is like really following in his footsteps by playing a character who is the son of the character he played. And I don’t think there would be any other forum where I would do that. I think this is the one thing.”

This news really shows that Black appears to be doubling down in making his film a proper sequel to Predator 2. He has stated in the past that the film takes place in between the 1990 film and 2010’s Predators, making the new film the logical end of a trilogy that began with Predator. Busey also stated that the new film is very similar to the first Predator film in terms of its feel, which backs up what Black has been saying all along. And Black should know, after all, since he was one of the stars of the 1987 original.

The link to Predator 2 is certainly a welcome if unexpected addition to The Predator, and we can’t wait to see what other surprises the movie has in store when it opens on August 3, 2018.
