Hold on to your hats, folks, because LucasFilm has just announced the release dates for a ton of major movies. An official statement has set the release date for both Star Wars: Episode IX, and a fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise, as well as a host of other major Disney releases.
While the new era of Star Wars movies have been dominating the box office over the holiday period, 2018 will see the upcoming Han Solo spin-off buck that trend and revert to the franchise’s more traditional territory of a May release date. And, now we’re told that Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX will follow suit, getting a release date of May 24, 2019.
Tagged onto that bit of news was the announcement that LucasFilm’s other major franchise, Indiana Jones will be returning for a fifth movie in 2020. The statement confirmed once more that legendary Indiana Jones duo, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford, will both return to the franchise for the project, which has now been given an official release date of July 10th, 2020.
Other release dates made in the statement included Jon Favreau’s live-action Lion King movie (July 19th, 2019), and Frozen 2 (November 27th, 2019). Some previously scheduled movies have been shuffled, including the adaptation of sci-fi classic, A Wrinkle in Time, which was bumped up to March 9th, 2018, while the Wreck-It Raph sequel has been pushed back 8 months to November 21st, 2018.
